Not as bad as what people say. 🤔
The only things I dislike is lack of quicksave (checkpoint saving)
and the VERY noisy metal music. I do like metal but not this. lol
I changed it right away with the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV5UnANIj3c&list=PL8Ze5WK7zCVWudTwLZj_u06RqFcCSrSHC&index=5,
which was very atmospheric and creepy, very suitable for this game.
Gameplay is good and feels similar to https://igg-games.com/dusk-free-512048991-download.html (so, a bit similar to https://igg-games.com/quake-481213021-the-offering-free-download.html imho. Edit : MUCH more like Quake than Dusk), with ultra-responsive fast controls, lots of secrets to find, satisfying weapons, interesting level design and very big maps to explore, and as Marco already stated, the upgrade system is a nice addition.
Speaking of maps, there's no minimap, apparently? (well, the game is early access, so wait and see...)
By the way, one little detail about graphics : I think the game looks better with bloom disabled. I raised brightness slider to compensate cos it does get darker without bloom, and it looks even more old-school now. 😍
About the special powers...
I don't know if it's just me who is TOO old-school, but I don't care for the BULLET TIME thing.
I'm playing since hours without using it at all, and I find it perfectly fun like that.
I remember loving this feature in https://igg-games.com/max-payne-free-download-584444005-2.html, but that was because the whole game was designed around it, so it can't be compared. Here, It looks out of place, and it's unnecessary.
On the other hand, the DASH power (while jumping) is necessary to access some places, which is cool.👍
I guess I agree with those who say it lacks originality, but it's still a 6 or even 7/10 for me.😉
Edit : OK, after a few more hours of playing, let's say maybe 6/10 instead of 7.
Why? Well, some enemies are literally EXACTLY like in Quake 1.
And I mean, not only their looks, but their attack patterns too!
The more I play, the more the feeling of a little ripoff gets stronger. 😐
Still, most of the game is really good, though.

The graphics are intentional. This game is a nod to older FPS games like Quake or Unreal.

Normally I'd agree, but with old-style FPSs like this early access means you get a whole episode out of an upcoming 3-5. From my experience early access FPSs of this type give you a short full-game experience and the full release gives you another four short full-game experiences on top of that.

Let's hope it's better than "Wrath" cause I absolutely couldn't get warm with it, no matter how hard I tried.
EDIT: Phew, the first impression was rough.
No way to change the scroll wheel, so no way to invert weapon switching.
The dash, while nice, has a longer cooldown than needed.
And while I really like the music in general, the game basically starts with "Final Boss Music" and keeps that tone.
But yeah, I'm still in love with this game.
I know it's Early Access and things still get changed... but my god, finally a game where on "Normal", you won't die in 4 hits, no matter how much armor and health you have left.
I hate "Wrath" for this and I hate "Viscerafest" for this, where each difficulty means, you have to play nearly perfect.
I also love the more "standard" guns... hard to explain, but it's the same thing I like in "Hrot" and I think it's the same in "Dusk".
And this game has an upgrade system, and I'm a sucker for this stuff.
Yeah yeah old school bla bla bla... we got enough of this, so a rare case with an upgrade system is very welcome.
Especially since it requires you to find upgrade slots and the upgrades as physical object.
So yeah, finally worthwhile secret hunting and not 20 secrets per level where 15 secrets are armor like in "Ion Fury".
I'm kinda excited to see, where this whole system goes and it feels a bit like a 3D version of "Viktor".
EDITEDIT: Oh yeah, on negative thing... I wanna see how many secrets there are BEFORE I exit the level.
There are neither a map nor level stats.

UGH. Even games WITHOUT, or WITH VERY LITTLE story are taking forever to complete any more lol.. These "early retro FPS shooters" should be done zippy quick. Like you point out constantly with DOOM mods.. It's not hard to put together good content if you are passionate about it..
So I wonder how many levels we get with this EA.. 5? How many more will we get in the next year? 1? Lmao.
